Dr Philip Dodgson was born in Sheffield in 1952. After learning how to read and write and do sums, as well as tying his shoelaces, all at Lydgate Lane School, he went on to study at King Edward VII School – also in Sheffield. From there he continued his education at Nottingham University Medical School. After doing house jobs and GP training in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Dr Dodgson worked as a GP in Derby for 32 years. In March 2010, and after hearing about yet another planned government reorganisation of GP services, Dr Dodgson handed in his notice and retired a year later, on the 31st March 2011. Dr Dodgson is interested in travel, photography, maps, walking, archaeology and Real Ale. He and his wife, Cecilia currently divide their time between Derby and as many other places as possible, including wherever their seven grandchildren are.
